Question 1: Business Title and Commodity Selection
1. Business Title
The proposed farming business is an integrated agricultural enterprise that combines broiler
(chicken) production and maize cultivation. These two commodities are deliberately se-
lected because they complement each other operationally: maize serves as the primary grain
ingredient in broiler feed formulation, which reduces feed costs and creates a self-reinforcing
production cycle on the same farm.
Business Title: Hleza Integrated Agri-Enterprise — Broiler and Maize Production, Limpopo
Province
Why This Combination Works
Maize is the dominant ingredient in commercial broiler feed, constituting approximately 60–
65% of total feed composition (Leeson & Summers, 2009). Growing maize on the same farm
means the enterprise can mill its own feed, cutting input costs substantially and improving
profit margins over time.
