ANATOMY OF AXILLA PROPER
INTRODUCTION:
The axilla is a pyramidal shaped depression between the upper
shaft of the humerus and the lateral part of the thoracic cavity.
Major vessel pass through the axilla to supply the upper limb
EXTENT:
The axilla extend from the 2nd to the 5th rib and intercostal muscles
BORDERS:
The axilla has Borders that surrounds it and gives it that pyramidal
shape
The borders are listed according to how they are placed
ANTERIORLY: PECTORALIS MAJOR AND PECTORALIS MINOR
MUSCLES
POSTERIORLY: SUBSCAPULARIS, TERES MAJOR, TRAPEZIUS
MUSCLES
MEDIALLY: SERRATUS ANTERIOR MUSCLE AND THE 2ND TO 5TH RIBS
LATERALLY:
THE UPPER SHAFT OF HUMERUS COVERED WITH THE BICEP
