Abstract
Background
Globally malnutrition leads to almost half of deaths to children under five years. Severe
malnutrition results in stunting, which is irreversible with overwhelming effects such as reduced
brain and physical development and decreased productivity. Children who are malnourished
have various symptoms such as apathy, weakness, and fatigue. Mostly there is slow mental
development, decreased muscle growth, and also reduced brain development. For example,
preventable diseases, such as pneumonia, malaria, and diarrhea, are the top cause of death in
children below five years. Many of these deaths happen to children with a weak immune system
due to malnutrition. This issue occurs due to a variety of reasons. It is unjust, and everyone in the
world should get the nutrition one needs for healthy living. The paper reviews literature relating
to malnutrition in children to well understand how to alleviate the situation

There are various factors and effects of child malnutrition. Factors that lead to child
malnutrition include social-economic status, inequalities, poverty, parents’ education, and
