Pi Chi only Greek terms - ANS✔✔ Big Sister: each new member is given a "Big" who serves as a
mentor, guide and closest friend throughout the new member period and initiation. This bond
remains even after the new member has initiated. Also called "Biggie".
Ceremonies: semi-formal and sometimes public activities with prescribed procedures
conducted to commemorate a milestone event in the life of a Pi Chi. Each ceremony has layers
of meaning built into it intended to enrich the chapter's understanding and experience of
sisterhood.
Foundation: a term used to refer to the sorority's Catholic identity and the teachings and
practices of the Catholic Church. It is upon this foundation, that the sorority's four pillars are
built.
Genesis Day: Pi Alpha Chi's version of Bid Day. It's a time for new members to formally be
welcomed into the chapter.
Little Sister: each new member is called a little sister. She is given a "big" that serves as a mentor
and guide throughout the new member period. The big/little relationship is primary within the
chapter. There is a ceremonial reveal, gift giving, appreciation week and other bonding
traditions. This relationship remains strong even after the new member has been initiated.
New Member Pin: the pins worn only by new members, which indicate their affiliation to Pi
Alpha Chi from the time of their Genesis Ceremony until Initiation.
Membership Invitation: Pi Alpha Chi's version of a Bid Card. During Recruitment Week,
Membership Invitations will be distributed to PNMs the Chapter believes will make positive
additions to the sorority. PNMs have a limited amount of time to respond to the invitations, and
if they accept, they must attend the Genesis Day celebrations.
