Juliet is 13. Capulet, her father, won't be easily persuaded by Paris. Capulet thinks she's too

young and needs to wait 2 more years before she gets married. Also Juliet has to agree to

the marriage if it were to happen.


Lord Capulet's willingness to allow Juliet to have a say in whom she marries is pretty

progressive, since most marriages for the social class at the time would have been arranged

by parents. Why, do you suppose, Capulet is willing to take Juliet's feelings into
