,WHAT IS TRAUMA?
Trauma (derived from the Greek word *“τραῦμα – traûma,”
meaning “wound” or “injury”) refers to any bodily harm caused
by an external physical force. It occurs unintentionally through
incidents such as road traffic accidents, falls, burns, or assaults,
leading to damage of tissues or organs.
It is important to differentiate non-intentional trauma from
intentional or controlled injury, such as those made during
surgery — where tissue damage is purposeful, sterile, and
managed within a medical setting, unlike accidental trauma
which is sudden and unplanned.
