A teams organizational structure would meet the needs of the consulting company.
One of the main features of a teams structure is having a group of people with
related skills or specialties that work together on a project or goal. A team allows for
multiple viewpoints, providing a larger pool of ideas to resolve problems or work towards
a goal.
Another feature of the teams structure is that a team is more fluid and can more
readily adapt and change as the business or client needs change. The scenario
indicates that the consulting firm would be working with community businesses to help
them make changes to become more sustainable and profitable and elevate the
reputation of the client’s brand. Since the consulting company is looking to target three
different areas to foster successful changes in a client's business, it would not be
realistic to find a single person who is an expert in sustainability, profitability, and brand
recognition. This is why a teams structure would apply to the consulting business. The
team would consist of individuals who specialize in either sustainability, profitability, or
branding, working together. Each person would have clearly defined objectives that
directly contribute to the overall goal. Team members would communicate regularly with
1
, each other, and the team leader would oversee all efforts to ensure cohesiveness and
that the areas of work would not impede each other.

The teams structure can be used to support functions. People are grouped by
function, or specialty, such as sustainability, profitability, and brand reputation. A team is
comprised of members from each function who come together under one manager. This
concept has several advantages. First, communication is more effective with a single
manager to whom all team members can report. Everyone on the team has their
specialty or area of expertise, and it is clear what their role, responsibilities, and
objectives are. The team is more productive as each person works within their
knowledge and submits their part towards the final product or goal. Finally, looking at
the team from the client side, they see that they have been assigned a team of
specialists in their areas of expertise that can simultaneously address the three areas of
improvement. By working on all three functions simultaneously, the project or goal can
be completed more quickly. The team members will be in communication to ensure that
the recommended changes will not hurt another function if implemented.
All businesses must have a chain of command. The teams structure in the
scenario would be best suited to a flatter organization chain of command. Teams report
to a single manager who, in turn, reports to upper management or executives. The flat
organization, with fewer levels of management, would be more cost-effective for the
new consulting business. Teams would have greater flexibility in making decisions and
