Solutions for Current Healthcare Related Issues
Part A
Current health trends driven by social and political factors can greatly affect the health of a
population. Social factors are the social determinants of health that can influence both the
mental and physical wellbeing of a population. A health related social factor that significantly
influences the population presented in the scenario is built neighborhood and environment. A
safe neighborhood that has access to resources like clean water, reliable transportation, and
adequate medical services can positively impact the health of its population. In this scenario
there is a lack of an adequate commuting system with large numbers of people living in
overcrowded spaces, and access to health resources are limited due to geographic location.
This environment can cause delays to proper medical or mental treatments, increase the spread
of communicable diseases and injuries sustained, as well as reduce access to preventable care
resources. (Sherrell & Biggers, 2025)
Political factors can influence health outcomes through economic policies, social structures, and
allocations of resources. These political factors can help to shape where people live and work. In
the scenario, a health related political factor that is negatively impacting the community is
allocations of resources. Allocation of resources is a process of making decisions on how to
invest funding to address needs through effective wealth distribution. Positive division of funds
improves access to health services, helps to create more job opportunities, aids in addressing
social disparities, and promotes and supports community safety. On the other hand, a negative
distribution of funding leads to an increase in inequalities that widens the disparity gap, lowers
access to essential medical services, elevates social unrest, and intensifies distrust in
government and political figures in power. The population in the scenario includes children living
below the poverty line, residents who are medically underserved and receiving supplemental
nutrition assistance, and a large number of people living in tight transitional housing. Most of the
healthcare resources were allocated to more affluent towns and cities surrounding the poverty
stricken community. This negative allocation of resources has many individuals, families and
children living below the poverty line with reliance on government assistance to survive. The use
of SNAP indicates that there is a critical need for proper funding and fair policies to even out the
wealth disparity. (FasterCapital, 2025)
Part B
Our built environment and neighborhood we live and work in influences the lifestyle choices we
make which can greatly impact our mental and physical health. The environment includes
man-made infrastructures like roads, buildings, houses, streets, parks, sidewalks, and
businesses. These things can negatively or positively impact a populations’ ability to grow.
Solutions to improve a built neighborhood and environment include investing in the
transportation system to make it more affordable, reliable and efficient by creating more routes,
