Personal Reasons:
Fear:
- The crime wouldn’t be reported due to fear of the criminal which can
be for themselves or the people they are close to. Crimes such as
domestic abuse would have a factor of fear for its reason of not
reporting it.
Shame:
- The crime wouldn’t be reported due to the factor of shame. This
could be a reason because they are the victim, and they may feel
embarrassed of what has happened to them and fell like people
wouldn’t care due to the scenario it was in.
Disinterest:
- People may also witness a crime be committed but due to the fact
it’s not in a person interest it will go unreported. For example,
seeing a robbery in pursuit, this can make a witness feel
disinterested to report the crime as it isn’t happening to them, or
they don’t care that it’s happening.
Not affected:
- Another factor would be that the person isn’t affected by the crime
occurring in any sort of way. This could be for many reasons such as
seeing vandalism occur, but it isn’t happening to their property they
wont feel affecting making them not find the need to report such
crime.
Social and Cultural reasons:
Lack of knowledge:
- This can be because the crime isn’t something that is shared about
in society this can be due that the crime is very minor or that the
law about this crime is so old that no one remembers it nor realise
it’s a crime anymore.
