◉ Compound Formulas Answer: A compound formula consists of the
symbols of the elements found in the compound. Each elemental
symbol represents one atom of the element. If more than one atom
is represented, a subscript following the elemental symbol is used.

◉ The Structure of Atoms Answer: Atoms are made up of three
subatomic particles, protons, neutrons, and electrons.
The protons and neutrons are tightly bound together to form the
central portion of an atom called the nucleus.
The electrons are located outside of the nucleus and thought to
move very rapidly throughout a relatively large volume of space
surrounding the small but very heavy nucleus.

◉ Protons Answer: Protons are located in the nucleus of an atom.
They carry a +1 electrical charge and have a mass of 1 atomic mass
unit (u). Made up of 2 Up (+4/3) and 1 Down (-1/3) quarks. The
Strong force holds protons to neutrons in nucleus.

◉ Neutrons Answer: Neutrons are located in the nucleus of an atom.
They carry no electrical charge and have a mass of just over 1 atomic

, mass unit (u). Made up of 1 Up (+2/3) and 2 Down (-2/3) quarks. A
free neutron will decay into a proton and electron. The Weak force
holds neutrons together.

◉ Electron Answer: Electrons are located outside the nucleus of an
atom. They carry a -1 electrical charge and have a mass of 1/1836
atomic mass unit (u). They move rapidly around the heavy nucleus.
Electrons are not made of quarks.

◉ Temperature Conversions Answer: Converting Fahrenheit to
Celsius.
oC = 5/9(oF - 32)
Converting Celsius to Fahrenheit.
oF = 9/5(oC) + 32
Converting Kelvin to Celsius.
oC = K - 273.15
Converting Celsius to Kelvin
K = oC + 273.15

◉ Structural formula Answer: lines represent connections between
atoms

◉ Ball and stick model Answer: Each element is represented by a
different colored ball
