Introduction
• alcohols- hydroxy, derivatives of hydrocarbons are called alcohols.
They are formed when a hydrogen atom is replaced by OH group.
• phenols- aromatic hydroxy compounds in which OH group is bounded
to benzene ring directly are called phenols
• Ether- the substitution of H in a hydrocarbon by an OR group gives
ether
