The Russian Revolution
(Quick revision guide for students)

The Russian Revolution was one of the most important political
events of the 20th century. It took place in Russia in 1917 and
led to the collapse of the Russian monarchy and the
establishment of a communist government.

Before the revolution, Russia was ruled by Tsar Nicholas II, who
had absolute power. Many people were unhappy with his rule
because the government did not allow political freedom and
failed to solve the economic problems of the country.

Most Russians were peasants who lived in poverty, while
workers in cities faced harsh working conditions, long hours,
and low wages. These problems created widespread
dissatisfaction among the population.

Russia’s involvement in World War I made the situation worse.
Military defeats, food shortages, and economic crisis increased
public anger toward the government.

These conditions eventually lead to protests and uprisings that
resulted in the Russian Revolution.

, Causes of the Russian Revolution

Several factors contributed to the outbreak of the Russian
Revolution.
 Autocratic Rule
Russia was ruled by Tsar Nicholas II, who believed in absolute monarchy.
He made decisions without consulting the people and resisted political
reforms. This lack of representation made many citizens unhappy with
the government.

 Poor Living Conditions
Most people in Russia were peasants who lived in poverty. Industrial
workers also faced extremely difficult working conditions. They worked
long hours for very low wages and had little protection or rights.

 Impact of World War I
Russia suffered heavy losses during World War I. Many soldiers were
poorly equipped and poorly trained. The war caused economic problems,
food shortages, and widespread suffering among civilians.

 Spread of Revolutionary Ideas
New political ideas began spreading among workers and intellectuals.
Many people believed that the existing system was unfair and demanded
a government that represented the people.
