2.1 Tectonic processes are:
processes that deform Earth's crust to create major structural features, such as mountains, continents, and ocean
basins.
2.1 What is the difference between Continental Drift and Plate Tectonics?
About 50 years ago there was a proposal that continents drift. But many N American geologists refused to accept the
drift proposal; perhaps because much of supporting evidence was from Africa, S America, and Australia, areas N
Amer geologists were not familiar with.
After WW2 there were more advanced technologies to support the drift proposal which then became theory of plate
tectonics. During this time new field of geology were formed (geophysicist, geochemist).
2.2 Who formulated the idea of Continental Drift and when?
Alfred Wegener made the Ho that continents drift in 1912; continents are not fixed but move slowly over geologic
time.
2.2 What did Wegener call this single supercontinent?
He called it Pangaea that existed over 200 million y/a during late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras.
