A Note to Parents and Educators
Welcome to the Long Division Mastery Workbook! This book is designed to take students
on a journey from basic division to complex real-world problem-solving. To get the best out of
this workbook, we recommend the following:
Slow and Steady: Don’t rush! Completing one page with focus is better than rushing
through five.
Study the Example: Always look at the step-by-step example on the next page before
starting a new unit.
Use a Pencil: Math is about making mistakes and learning from them. Keep an eraser
handy!
Show Your Work: Use the large spaces provided for each problem. Showing steps helps
catch small errors.
Mastering the ”DMSB” Method
To solve any long division problem, just remember our favorite robot’s family:
1. Dad (Divide)
2. Mom (Multiply)
3. Sister (Subtract)
4. Brother (Bring down)

How to Solve: Step-by-Step Example
Let’s solve: 472 ÷ 5
Step 1: Divide 47 by 5. How many 5s in 47?
9. Write 9 on top.
Step 2: Multiply 9 × 5 = 45. Write 45 under
47.
Step 3: Subtract 47 − 45 = 2.
Step 4: Bring down the 2. Now you have 22.
Step 5: Repeat! 22 ÷ 5 = 4. 4 × 5 = 20.
22 − 20 = 2.
Final Result: 94 Remainder 2 (94 R2)
