PHARMACOLOGY EXAM 2 REVIEW 2020 Blood pressure medications: General teaching, what do avoid, what to do, what to monitor when is BP too low, too high? - 120/80 – 90/60 o Too low, call provider - norepinephrine - 180/120 – crisis, go to the ED General teaching - Move slowly o Rise and stand slowly - Look for objects on floor - Monitor for hypotension o Dizziness o Weakness o Nausea o Sweat - Could be on a diurectic o Heart rate could go up o Keep hydrated o Monitor electrolytes ▪ Lab draws Digoxin: normal plasma levels, administration - Used for heart failure o Slows heart rate o More time for heart to rest - 0.5 - 0.9 = therapeutic levels - 2 is toxic - Assess apical pulse o If pulse is under 60 bpm hold med - Do not stop abruptly - Antibody fragments Cholestyramine: patient teaching - Used to reduce cholesterol - Increase fiber/fluids - constipation - Give 1 hour before or 4-6 hour after other meds - Take with food - Headache, tinnitus, anxiety - Monitor labs, HR, and BP - GI side effects will resolve with continued use Beta Blockers: Therapeutic effects, + (how do they work), contraindications - Lower HR .....................................CONT................................
