SECTION A: PRINCIPLES OF COMMUNITY PSYCHOLOGY
Empowerment
Empowerment focuses on helping individuals and communities gain control over
their lives by promoting participation, access to resources and the ability to make
decisions that improve their well being.
Respect for Diversity
Respect for diversity recognises that people have a right to be different and that
community programmes must value and include different cultures, identities and
experiences within a community.
Oppression and Power
This principle highlights the need to identify and challenge inequality and unfair
power relations in society so that all community members can experience social
justice and equal opportunities.
