Microbial ecology is the scientific study of the interactions,

of microorganisms (bacteria, archaea, viruses, and fungi) with
each other and their living
(biotic) and non-living (abiotic) environments.

microbial communities within their natural, terrestrial, aquatic, and
atmospheric
environments. It examines the crucial roles microorganisms play in

like biogeochemical cycling, as well as their application in
