Microbiology
Microbial ecology is the scientific study of the interactions,
relationships, and distributions
of microorganisms (bacteria, archaea, viruses, and fungi) with
each other and their living
(biotic) and non-living (abiotic) environments.
Environmental microbiology is the study of the composition,
function, and interaction of
microbial communities within their natural, terrestrial, aquatic, and
atmospheric
environments. It examines the crucial roles microorganisms play in
ecological processes
like biogeochemical cycling, as well as their application in
bioremediation, waste treatment,
and environmental management.
