This document explains the fundamental concepts of electricity, focusing on electric current, resistance, and electromotive force (EMF). It discusses how electric charge flows through conductors, how resistance affects this flow, and how voltage drives current in a circuit. The lesson includes key formulas such as Ohm’s Law and explores factors that influence resistance like length, area, and temperature. It also introduces different types of circuits and provides examples to help students understand and apply these concepts in problem-solving.

Unit IV. Light as an Electromagnetic Wave

Lesson 5
Nature of Light

,Timeline

Christiaan Huygens proposed a wave property of
1678 light. He defined that the light is vibrating up and
down, perpendicular to the direction of the
propagation of light.

James Clark Maxwell predicted the existence of
1873
electromagnetic wave.

Heinrich Hertz provided experimental confirmation
1887 of Maxwell’s theory, and showed conclusively that
light is an electromagnetic wave.

,Electromagnetic Waves

• waves that can travel through a
vacuum

• are capable of transporting
energy through a vacuum,
unlike mechanical waves

• produced by a vibrating electric
charge and as such, they
consist of both an electric and a
magnetic component Source: kaiserscience.wordpress.com
