Coastal Plains of India
The Peninsular Plateau is flanked by narrow coastal strips.
These lie along:
• Arabian Sea (West Coast)
• Bay of Bengal (East Coast)
Western Coastal Plains
• Located between Western Ghats and Arabian Sea.
• Narrow and uneven plain.
• Divided into three sections:
1. Konkan Coast – Northern part (Mumbai to Goa)
2. Kannad Plain – Central part
, 3. Malabar Coast – Southern part
Eastern Coastal Plains
• Lies along the Bay of Bengal.
• Wide and level compared to the western coast.
• Divided into two sections:
1. Northern Circar – Northern part
2. Coromandel Coast – Southern part
Major rivers forming deltas on the east coast:
• Mahanadi
• Godavari
• Krishna
• Kaveri
