Assignment 2.
The Musculoskeletal System.
The main function of the Musculoskeletal
System is to provide movement and
support, but it also has other roles such
as:
Protection of the vital structures.
Provision of body forms.
Stability.
Storage of salts.
Formation and supply of new blood
cells.
The Skeletal part of the system concerns
the arrangement of bones and the specific
movements carried out by the body.
The Muscular part of the system focuses on
the movements in which the joints can carry out and the attachment of joints
and muscles to the bones.
The Musculoskeletal system is made up of muscles, bones and joints. A joint is a
structure that enables movement at the touching point of two bones. The
cartilage is a solid cushion that covers the ends of two bones, absorbing shock
and allowing the bones to glide over each other.
Ligaments hold the joint together by joining bones together. The muscles are
attached to the bones by tendons. As the muscles contract, they pull on the
bones to make the joint move.
To reduce the risk of musculoskeletal conditions such as Arthritis or Osteoporosis
individuals should participate in regular exercise. Exercise will reduce the risk of
developing musculoskeletal conditions such as Arthritis and will also aid joint
