Work-life balance is a huge concern for employers and employees.
After so much work was shifted to remote during the pandemic, there has
been a lot of discussion of work from home as an option for offering
employees more balance in their work and home life. Some employees
don’t want to work from home, or they have jobs that do not easily
transition to remote. Another option that doesn’t seem to be discussed as
much is shifting from the traditional five-day work week to a four-day
approach. This approach can work two different ways. For some
employees, this might mean four 10-hour shifts in place of five 8-hour
shifts. There is also the option of the 100-80-100 model where “workers get
100% of the pay for working 80% of the time in exchange for delivering
100% of their usual output” (Liu, 2023). This report is for the intended
audience of upper-level business managers for the purpose of helping
them to understand the effects of a four-day work week on employees. Two
important effects of a four-day work week are happier and healthier
employees.
