The aspect of my instructional practice that I aim to improve is my ability to
effectively support productive struggle during writing instruction.
Specifically, I want to enhance how I guide first-grade students in
independently transferring their oral comprehension and verbal reasoning
into coherent written responses. While students often demonstrate strong
understanding when speaking, many encounter difficulty when expected to
organize and express those ideas in writing without immediate support.


A2. Justification for Improvement

This area of improvement emerged from my reflection using the Teaching
Practice Self-Inventory, which revealed a consistent tendency to intervene
too quickly when students experience difficulty during writing tasks.
Although my intention is to support student success, this habit may
inadvertently limit opportunities for students to engage in meaningful
cognitive struggle.

I have observed that students rely heavily on teacher prompts and
reassurance rather than attempting to work through challenges
independently. This pattern suggests that my instructional approach may not
be fully fostering student persistence, independence, or higher-order
thinking skills. Strengthening my ability to balance support with intentional
release of responsibility will better empower students to develop confidence
and autonomy in their writing.
