The scenario described by Bruwer (2025) paints a picture of systemic dysfunction in a ru-
ral South African public school, where multiple interlocking challenges undermine effective
classroom management and student outcomes. Drawing on established literature in educa-
tional psychology and classroom management theory, five major challenges are identified,
