1. Executive Summary
This report looks at how Commu-Tech follows the South African skills development
system. It explains the company’s main responsibilities, such as paying the skills
development levy, registering with MERSETA, submitting a Workplace Skills Plan
(WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR), and appointing a Skills Development
Facilitator (SDF).
It also evaluates how Commu-Tech’s training helps or limits compliance and access to
grants. Although the company takes training seriously and submits its WSP and ATR,
there are some problems. These include poor application of safety training, employees
working without proper certification, and a reactive approach to training. These issues
may affect full compliance and reduce access to grants.
