NHS Pathways System Practice
What are the different parts of the system called? (3 marks)—ANSWER--- Module 0
- Module 1
- Module 2
What do these different parts do? (3 marks)—ANSWER--- Module 0 is primarily
concerned with ruling out immediately life threatening situations. Will be used
predominantly by Health Advisors.
- Module 1 contains a large database of "Pathways" from which the user chooses the
most suitable one to enable detailed assessment of symptoms. Will be used
predominantly by Health Advisors. Also includes the Body Map.
- Module 2 enables more detailed clinical assessment by a Clinican.
Why must questions be answered in order? (1 mark)—ANSWER--- Because questions
are ordered so that most serious symptoms and potential causes are ruled out first
Must every question be verbally asked of a caller? Provide a reason for your answer (1
mark)—ANSWER--- No, every question must be answered but this does not always
require that every question is asked, since caller's often volunteer useful information
without being directly asked about it
, What is an inferred question? (1 mark)—ANSWER--- It is a question that usually does
not need to be asked because the answer is likely to be obvious
How are inferred questions indicated within the system? (1 mark)—ANSWER--- They are
in upper case (captials)
How does the system handle "not sure" questions? (1 mark)—ANSWER--- Depending on
balance of risk and the type of question being asked, "not sure" sometimes act as a
"yes" and sometimes acts as a "no"
What is a disposition (outcome) comprised of? (2 marks)—ANSWER--- The type of
care/skill set required and a timeframe
Why are Pathways gender and age specific? (1 mark)—ANSWER--- This is to
accommodate the different range of conditions and anatomical/physiological
differences between different age groups and genders
What does clicking restart triage do? (3 marks)—ANSWER--- It wipes all questions and
answers
- Takes you right back to the very beginning of the NHS Pathways system
- It can also be used to change party from 1st to 3rd or vice versa
If someone had taken an overdose in an attempt to commit suicide would you select
"injury" or "illness or other health problem"? (1 mark)—ANSWER--- Illness or other
health problem
What is the purpose of the "Key Points"? (1 mark)—ANSWER--- These tell you what the
Pathway should and shouldn't be used for
