Asthenosphere—ANSWER--The soft layer of the mantle on which the

lithosphere floats.


Convection currents in the mantle—ANSWER--Heat from the core and the

mantle causing up and down movements of molten material due to

differences and temperature and density. The hotter mantle material starts

to rise to the top, then cools down and starts to sink down towards the

bottom. These currents cause tectonic plates to move.


core—ANSWER--Center of the earth


Crust—ANSWER--Earth's outermost layer.


Lithosphere—ANSWER--A rigid layer made up of the uppermost part of the

mantle and the crust.
