An acceptable score is 90% or greater to earn 1 point for this portion of the assignment. After completing the ATI lesson and test, find the LPN/RN Scope of Practice document from the Minnesota Board of Nursing posted under your Unit 1 course materials. Read the document and compare the scope of practice in Minnesota for the roles of LPN and RN. Complete your responses below addressing: How are they alike? How do they differ? Are the roles well-defined so that you have no question about what you are authorized to do or not do as an LPN? What areas of ambiguity did you find, if any? What questions about your role as a LPN would you have if you were to practice in Minnesota? This portion of the assignment is worth a maximum of 1 point for complete responses. Lastly, choose a State Board of Nursing website for a state other than Minnesota. This may be a state that you are planning to work in or it may be a dream location for a “someday I would like to be employed in the state of XXX”! Locate and read the LPN/RN Scope of Practice for this new location. Compare that “other” state with the information you found for Minnesota, answering the same questions. Include your responses on this assignment page. This portion of the assignment is worth a maximum of 1 point for complete responses.1. State 3 key points of learning you found the most valuable from completion of the ATI Lesson on Scope and Standards of Practice. - 3 key points I found the most valuable were learning about the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) that allows nurses to practice in other NLC states without having to get any other licenses. Another thing I learned is that the transitions to practice programs help increase the person retain job retention. Another thing I learned was that the NCLEX has a 95% grading system that calculates a student nurse’s pass/fail grade. A passing rate for many states is if a student has a 50-60% passing of questions right. 2. Compare the Scope of Practice for LPN’s and RN’s in Minnesota. Answer the following: - In what ways is the function of the LPN like that of the RN (example: both can XXXXX with the same level of authority and responsibility) - LPNs and RNs can implement interventions that are delegated, ordered, or prescribed by a licensed health care provider; providing safe and effective nursing care delivery; promoting a safe and therapeutic environment; advocating for the best interests of individuals patients; and providing accountability for the quality of care being delivered. - Areas where the function of the LPN differs from that of the RN are? (Example: a LPN can do XXX and the RN can XXX.) This response would show the “differing level” of responsibilities between the LPN and RN. - LPNs provide more basic nursing care and are responsible for the comfort of the patient whereas the RN is the primary person to administer medications, treatments, and can offer educational advice to patients and the public. - After reading the Scope of Practice for LPN’s and RN’s in Minnesota is the role you would have as an LPN clear to you? Explain your response providing examples of what you clearly understand and what you may have questions about. - Yes, it is clear to me. It is understandable that LPNs and RNs differ in their scope of practice and their educational requirements. LPNs and RNs both care for their patient's basic needs and administer treatments, RNs have a more in-depth scope of practice that includes interpreting diagnostic tests and supervising nursing assistants and aides, while LPNs can only delegate to other LPNs or CNAs. - For questions you have about the role of the LPN in Minnesota, what are the resources you would seek to have your questions clarified?- Minnesota Board of Nursing would be one place to look to have your questions answered. 3. Compare the Scope of Practice for LPN’s and RN’s in Minnesota with the Scope of Practice for LPN’s and RN’s in your chosen state of . Answer the following: - In what ways is the function of the LPN and RN in Minnesota like that of the LPN and RN in a state other than Minnesota? (Example: both can XXXXX with the same level of authority and responsibility) - ND scope of practice and the MN scope of practice for LPNs and RNs are about the same. It just ND is more laid out with their explanations than MNs explanations are. - Areas where the function of the LPN and/or RN differs from that of the LPN and/or RN in a state other than Minnesota is? (Example: a LPN can do XXX in Minnesota but in the LPN can do XXX. This response would show the “differing level” of responsibilities of LPN’s and/or RN’s in states other than Minnesota. This is something similar to different speed limits among different states as a person drives along the same interstate road going through several states. - There are really no areas of function that the LPN/RN in ND differs from the LPN/RN in MN. They share the same scope of practice; it’s just that the ND guidelines are laid out better to read. LPNs in ND function at a dependent level whereas the RN in ND functions at an independent leve
