, Chemical Reaction :
The transformation of chemical substance into another chemical
substance is know as chemical reaction. e.g. Rusting of Iron, setting
of curd, digestion, respiration etc.
Chemical changes indicate that chemical reaction has occurred.

Characteristic of Chemical Reaction :
Change in color.
Change in state.
Change in energy.
Evolution of gas.
Precipitate formation.
Chemical Equation

Chemical Equation :
Representation of chemical reactions via chemical
formulae and symbols is known as chemical equation.
E.g. Reaction of magnesium with oxygen gives magnesium
oxide.
Mg+O₂⟶ MgO

Note :
This image depicts the chemical
reaction between magnesium and
oxygen in which magnesium ribbon
burns with white dazzling flame
and white powder(ash) is
magnesium oxide. Magnesium
ribbon is to be rubbed with sand
paper to remove oxide layer,
allowing it to burn easily.

Balanced Chemical Equation:
A Balanced chemical equation has equal number of atoms in the
reactant and product side. It follows Law of Conservation of Mass.
e.g. Fe + H₂O ⟶ Fe₃O₄ + H₂(Unbalanced)
3Fe + 4H₂O ⟶ Fe₃O₄ + 4H₂(Balanced)
