extracorporeal shock wave nursing care
After a patient has an extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy,
they will experience colicky pain and will have a stunt in place
to help pass the stone. It will be important to encourage fluids
which will help dilute the urine and relieve some pain.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) signs and symptoms
- prostate gland increases in size, disrupting the outflow of urine
from the bladder through the urethra
Symptoms: bothersome lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS),
such as difficulty starting a urine stream, a decreased/weaker
flow of urine, or urinary frequency

TURP Nursing care post op
- surgical procedure involving the removal of prostate tissue
using a resectoscope inserted through the urethra
- complications after surgery are hemorrhage, bladder spasms,
urinary incontinence, and infection
- observe for signs or symptoms of transurethral resection
syndrome (TUR or TURP syndrome). This condition is
manifested by nausea, vomiting, confusion, bradycardia, and
hypertension.

Activities to promote healthy bowel elimination
- stay hydrated- Drink 2 L per day
- Eat 20 to 30 g of fiber per day
- High fiber foods: raw vegetables and fruits, beans, breakfast
cereals (All Bran, oatmeal)
- For patients who require laxatives, bulk-forming are the best
option because they work the same way as dietary fiber and do
not cause dependence. Also fiber supplements such as
Metamucil, Citrucel, FiberCon.
- Exercise
- Patients should also develop regular bowel patterns and listen
to their body's urge to go.
- Record elimination patterns.
- Avoid enemas and laxatives

Signs and symptoms of an impaction
Signs and symptoms that may indicate impaction would be if the
patient has a sudden change in their bowel habits within 6
weeks, dehydration, abdominal pain, weight loss, nausea,
vomiting and distended abdomen
