Pre-Lab Questions
1. What factors are involved in the separation of the pigments?
The size of the components, how the pigment reacts to the paper and the solubility
2. Describe a technique for measuring photosynthetic rate.
A technique in measuring a photosynthetic rate is the production of oxygen
3. Many deciduous trees have leaves which turn yellow in the fall. What do you suppose is
happening in the leaves at the cellular and molecular level?
Trees alike many living things have life cycles and trees prepare to change for each season
differently. For example when fall arrives and leaves turn yellow, this occurs because nights
are becoming longer.
4. Chloroplasts and mitochondria are both are unusual in that they have double membranes and
contain their own set of DNA. Can you think of any explanations for this observation?
This can be explained by the endosymbiotic theory
