Needs Assessment activity
Apply a strengths-based approach:
This activity is based on case study: APRIL
I will recognise April's Difficulties & Needs to create a basis for her strengths and relate them
adequately for the desired outcomes in order to move towards a strengths-based approach.
April's current Struggles & Needs are exacerbated by her recent involvement in an abusive
relationship, which has impacted her work: financial difficulties, giving up her flat (that is
now her biggest concern) and engaging with other attendees at the service (a lack of
confidence is apparent with also being described as ‘confusing’ from others).
April possesses special and inspiring personal attributes and skills, such as optimism,
creativity, self-reliance, and resilience. When it comes to her future, aspirations, dreams,
and plans, she is also very focused. She has previously identified herself as organised,
enthusiastic, and self-sufficient (prior to her abusive relationship and the loss of her flat) -
qualities that have deteriorated in recent months and that she wishes to reclaim April is a
calm, observant, and modest woman. We will use these skills and values to motivate her to
get back on track, and her independence, hard work, respect, and dedication can help her
apply for new tenancy applications.
April has interests and hobbies in crafts and the visual arts, which she uses to help the
environment (main programmes within the service she has excelled at and committed to for
the past few years). We can use these creative skills to explore new recreational activities
she can participate in at the service (new courses with new people) and maybe use her
talent and background in art to help others. a strong starting point for interacting with
others April has reported that she recently saw a work opportunity that suits her ideal skills
and experience and that she would like to apply for.
Analyse information about any co-existing issues
April is dealing with a number of problems at the same time, many of which are intertwined
and have an effect on one another. April, as previously mentioned, was recently involved in
an abusive relationship that caused her to lose her trust and force her to live with her sister.
April's abusive relationship ended four months ago, but it continues to affect her
emotionally and has caused her to isolate herself from people (particularly men) both inside
and outside the military.
