Analyzing Assessment Literacy
Assessment of students is necessary in order to ensure students are making academic
progress, challenge our students, and help them strive to do their best. Assessments help in
determining which students understand the material taught to them and which students need
interventions or additional support. One article states that “educators must understand how to
gather dependable evidence of student achievement and use the assessment process and its
results either to support or certify student achievement depending on the context” (Stiggins,
2014). For this analysis, I collected data about assessment literacy for my school, Grand
Concourse Academy Charter School, and myself. As a charter school, we have very high
standards and our goal is to ensure all students are academically successful. We constantly assess
our students to make sure that they are making academic progress, are challenged, and to make
sure that they are provided with the resources and accommodations they need to become
academically successful.

General Consideration Prior To Test Design Writing the Test During Test Administration After Testing
Phases of Assessment
When completing the rating for the personal survey, I thought about the variety of
assessments I have given my students and how I reflected back on every step of the assessment
process. The survey used a rating scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest. The average of the entire
survey was 4.292, and for four out of five categories, my average score was 4.09 or higher. I
believe those scores are a good reflection of myself. I feel that I am passionate about teaching
and determined to ensure the needs of my students are met and that they are all academically
successful. However, I do realize that there are items I need to learn more about.
After reviewing the results of the survey, I created the graph above. In the General
Considerations category, I averaged a 3.5 rating. I do believe this is a true representation of
myself. Additionally, for the other categories, I scored higher. For Prior to Test Design, I
averaged a 4.09 rating. This higher rating, I feel is due to the fact that I take my time when
creating assessments and make every attempt possible to ensure that the results of the
assessments will clearly identify what the students have learned and where more academic
intervention is needed. Additionally, as a test coordinator for my school, I am quite familiar with
ensuring students have the required and necessary testing modifications and accommodations.
Furthermore, for Writing the Test, my average rating was 4.67. This again shows an accurate
reflection of myself. I usually take the assessments provided by the academic programs used at
