Writing Classroom Assessment Items
Quality teaching relies heavily on the ability to assess the knowledge, skills, and abilities
of our students (Haladyna et al., 2002). While assessments of varying formats are commonly
used for assessing students, many teachers lack training in writing them (Przymuszała et al.,
2020). Assessments are valuable to use because they inform and guide our instruction. They can
be used prior to instruction, during, and after. Because of the guidance assessments give us, it is
important for us to know that the tests we create are reliable and valid when we create them. This
assignment examines a teacher created multiple choice test as a summative assessment, a
formative assessment to be used throughout instruction, and a performance based task.
