C922 Emerging Trends and Challenges Western Governors University Emerging Trends and Challenges in 21st Century Nursing Education C922 C922 Emerging Trends and Challenges Executive Summary The purpose of the curriculum change is to give nursing students a better way to participate in classes by means other than physical in-class presence. A literature review supports the mobile technology of Lippincott Blended Classroom being able to enhance learning, increase student-teacher collaboration and allow for formative learning opportunities and teacher observations. A team of stakeholders identified the gap in technology needs and collaborated on solutions. The stakeholders used a process to compare existing technology being used, which was textbooks and journal articles and in-class lectures and the desired technology of a web- based online classroom with other functions that could be available for enhanced learning. The process also came up with recommendations that would close the gap between current technology use and the desired technology use. After analyzing the readiness of the college and the colleges' strengths and weaknesses, the team of stakeholders developed a plan to reach the desired outcome. This plan included the Kotter change theory to facilitate plan implementation. The stakeholders also came up with different strategies to overcome any barriers that could potentially come up. These strategies were asking for reduced initial cost or fewer fees with maintenance or upgrades, and fast access to quick training sessions to get users up and running quickly. With technology everywhere in today's society, and with so many people with access to smartphones, laptops, tablets, we need to train future nurses to embrace this technology during school to ensure a smooth transition to the real world of nursing with its ever-changing and growing technology needs. Literature Review Refer to table 1, Literature Review Summary Table. The summary of the literature review on the use of technology in education is that mobile technology in nursing education will only help. There are many advantages to having access to information at your fingertips. If you can carry around a laptop with all your information with you instead of a backpack full of books that may or may not have what information you need when you need it, isn’t that better in the long run? It would be better physically, and mentally knowing that you do not have to stress over trying to be prepared for everything when you walk out of the house in the mornings. Access to technology is everywhere these days, even without internet access, smartphones have “data” plans that can give access to the internet temporarily.
