EL 5623 Developing Teachers

February 5, 2026
Introduction
Providing professional development is essential in supporting teachers and providing
them with opportunities to gain knowledge of different strategies and resources they can use to
help them become better and more effective teachers to their students. In addition, it allows them
the opportunity to reflect on their teaching and encourages them to try new methods to
accommodate the diverse needs of students. It is imperative that administrators provide their
teachers with professional development opportunities so that they feel supported and have been
given tools to support their needs and become successful in their classrooms. Professional
development should be continuous throughout the school year and differentiated to accommodate
the needs of a diverse population of educators and students. This assignment will provide
, 2
customized professional development ideas for teachers that were observed. Also, a conference
where we will review their lessons and discuss their strengths, goals, and plan for growth will be
scheduled. One article states, “the more professional development teachers get, the more likely
students are to succeed” (Robinson, 2019, para. 8).
Thank You
Dear Mrs. Barbee,
Thank you for presenting a well-organized and interesting lesson on main idea to your
group of third-grade students.
Cognitive Coaching
The cognitive coaching model will be utilized during our post-conference. The model
requires that you self-reflect and think about how you presented the lesson. As it is stated in the
book about cognitive coaching, when you think about your lesson, you should focus on your
thoughts, perceptions, beliefs, and assumptions (Costa & Garmston, 2002, para. 1). Some
questions I have for you to think about are: As you reflect on your lesson, how do you feel it
went? What did you see students doing or hear them saying that made you feel this way? As you
plan future lessons, what insights have you developed that might be carried forth to the next
lesson or other lessons? (Costa & Garmston, 2002).
