, FORENSIC INVESTIGATION AND INTERVIEW TECHNIQUES IN THE ENYOBENI
TAVERN DISASTER
INTRODUCTION
The Enyobeni Tavern disaster in East London led to the tragic deaths of young
people during a celebration after exams. The circumstances of the incident created
uncertainty about the exact cause of death, with different possibilities such as
poisoning, inhalation of toxic substances and overcrowding being considered. This
situation shows how complex crime scene investigations can be, especially when
there are no visible injuries on victims.
In such cases, investigators must rely on expert knowledge and scientific methods to
uncover the truth. Forensic science plays an important role in analysing evidence,
while proper interviewing techniques help gather reliable information from witnesses
and survivors. The case also shows the importance of careful investigation before
reaching conclusions, as early assumptions can mislead the process.
This assignment will discuss the role of expert assistance at the crime scene, the
relevant forensic fields, and how the cognitive interview technique can be used to
establish facts from witnesses.
DEFINITION OF CONCEPTS
Forensic Science
Forensic science refers to the use of scientific methods and techniques to investigate
crimes and present evidence in court. It helps investigators analyse physical and
biological evidence to determine what happened at a crime scene.
