What is a heart murmur atypical heart sound
What is pulsus paradoxus? It is the difference of 10 mm Hg or more between the
first Korotkoff sound heralding systolic B/P heard
during inspiration. The normal difference between
the two is 4-5 mm Hg.
Assessment of Pulsus Paradoxus Advise clients to breathe normally throughout the
assessment. Inflate BP cuff 20 mm Hg above systolic
pressure. Deflate cuff slowly, nothing that sounds are
audible during expiration, but not during inspiration.
Not when the first BP sound (Korotkoff) is heard.
Continue to deflate the cuff until BP sounds are
heard during both inspiration and expiration.
Measure the difference in millimeters of mercury
between the first BP sound heard during expiration
and the first BP sound heard during both inspiration
and expiration.
What are the four types of heart systolic, diastolic, continuous, innocent
murmurs
Systolic heart murmur? Occur during heart muscle contraction. These are
often caused by blood flowing through a narrowed
vessel or leaking valve (ejection or regurgitant).
Diastolic heart murmur Occur when the heart relaxes between beats. They
are generally related to heart disease, often
indicating valvular stenosis (narrowing) or leakage
.
