PEDS MIDTERM 1. CYSTIC FIBROSIS: a. It’s an autoimmune disease, the cause it’s unknown. This disease the endocrine and exocrine glands. b. D/C for parents of a child who has cystic fibrosis: too much secretions produce in the mucus membranes. c. When the pancreas duct is obstructed and the common bile duct gets occluded. d. Give pancreases or pancreatic enzymes so pt is able to digest/ absorb fats. Give the enzymes with meals e. Do not limit fluid intake, sodium or fats f. Fats are need to have enough cholesterol in the body g. Failure to thrive (FFT) it’s a known as a disease of not be able to absorbed nutrients h. The test for cystic fibrosis is salt chloride test( known as sweat test) Due to the obstruction of the common bile duct the endocrine and exocrine glands the pores sweat and the excretions of the sweat glands are salty sweats i. It will affect the lungs by mucous on the membranes, the child will be suffering from difficulty breathing 2. Tonsillectomy: a. Child has been suffering streptococcus, influenza disease or any other respiratory infection. b. Inflammation of tonsils, when the tonsils get swollen, the airways get restricted or obstructed. c. Interventions are ice chips to decrease the inflammation of the airways after being affected by a trigger d. After surgery after surgery NPO status is important until the gag reflexes come back. No orange juice, something red to prevent confusion with blood cranberry juice or vanilla shake due to thickness 3. acute laringo trachea bronchitis (inflammation of larynx, trachea, and bronchious): a. it is cause by strep which is an irritation of the respiratory tract b. sx/s: coarseness (barking stridor) , no relatively little temperature (fever) c. Medications effectiveness: upon auscultation, no more stridor sounds. d. Humidification ( turn on the hot water on the shower), hospital on mist home
