The PICOT question developed is: In patients who have undergone total hip arthroplasty, what is the effect of reduced or no hip precautions compared to standard hip precautions hip dislocation and quality of life within one year after surgery? The population is patients who have undergone THA. The independent variable is reduced or no hip precautions, the comparison is standard hip precautions, the outcome is hip dislocation and quality of life, and time frame is one year after surgery. The approach being used is quantitative. A quantitative research design typically starts with a general area of study and is narrowed down to a specific research question. It stems from a review of current research literature. This type of design involves research in a controlled setting that has objective measurements and numerical analyses of data to help establish correlation between given variables and outcomes (Choy, 2014).
