Intro to Pathophysiology Terms
pathogenesis - ANS -development of the disease or the sequence of events involved in the
tissue changes related to the specific disease process
onset - ANS -how a disease presents and starts
acute onset - ANS -sudden and obvious onset of a disease
insidious - ANS -gradual progression with only vague or very mild signs
incubation period - ANS -time between exposure to the microorganism and the onset of signs or
symptoms
acute illness - ANS -short-term illness that develops quickly with marked signs such as high fever
or severe pain—for example, acute appendicitis
chronic disease - ANS -milder condition developing gradually but persists for a long time and
usually causes more permanent tissue damage
subclinical state - ANS -pathologic changes occurring but the patient exhibits no obvious
manifestations
latent or "silent" stage - ANS -disease state in which no clinical signs are evident
