Exam Coverage
Exam coverage for NC DOCC generally includes core North Carolina
detention/corrections and custody-control concepts commonly
assessed in officer training or certification prep. It focuses on
inmate/offender supervision, facility safety and security, contraband
control, use-of-force guidelines, emergency procedures,
communication and de-escalation, transportation, report writing,
ethics, and professional conduct. The exam may also evaluate
understanding of intake and booking procedures, searches,
classification, suicide prevention, medical/mental health alerts, legal
liabilities, constitutional rights, and policy compliance within
correctional or detention settings. Emphasis is placed on safety, lawful
, custody practices, documentation accuracy, situational awareness, and
maintaining secure, humane, and policy-compliant operations.
Completion of the Detention Officer Certification Course in its entirety
shall be applicable to certification as a detention officer for a period
of _______ from the date the course terminates.
