Germany – Adolf Hitler became chancellor in 1933, Nazi Party
China – Mao Zedong, leader of CCP, proclaimed China the People’s Republic of China in
1949
Thesis: Social and economic policies in authoritarian states did achieve their aims to some
extent, however, there were also some failed policies.
First body paragraph (Germany – social polices):
- In Germany, social policies were, to a large extent, successful, achieving the aims set
out by Hitler.

o Main aim was to indoctrinate the youth with the Nazi ideology

- Topic sentence: Economic policies implemented by Hitler in Germany were to a large
extent not as successful, as, overall, they did not achieve the desired aim.
- Some of the main aims included reduction of unemployment, rearmament and
achieving autarky
- Policies aiming for reduction in unemployment:
o From May 1933 the only available option for workers to join was the German
Labor Front (DAF), as Hitler abolished trade unions
Its membership increased from 5 million in 1933 to 20 million in 1939
