MENTAL HEALTH DIAGNOSES The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-5), published by the American Psychiatric Association, is used by mental health professionals to diagnose mental health disorders in clients following standard criteria. It includes expected assessment findings for disorders and helps with planning, implementing, and evaluating care. Nurses use diagnoses from the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA) to provide the basis of appropriate nursing interventions for clients.
