Summary Task 5 - MRI, PET, fMRI - Brain or Vein?
Task 5 - MRI, PET, fMRI - Brain or Vein? The marriage of function and structure: neuroimaging (Gazzaniga) + The imaged brain (Ward) Structural imaging - methods based on the fact that different types of tissue (e.g. skull, gray matter, white matter, CSF) have different physical properties, which can be used to construct detailed static maps of the brain's physical structure. Functional imaging - methods that measure temporary changes in brain physiology associated with cognitive processing. Structural imaging Computerized tomography (CT) - scans constructed according to the amount of X-ray absorption in different types of tissue. The amount of absorption is related to tissue density. The scanned person is exposed to a small amount of radiation. They are typically used in clinical settings to diagnoze tumors or hemorrhages.
