Gun Control in America.
A lot of mass killing have been occurring in the world thus bring perspectives in the
society on guns. In the United States, series of mass shootings have occurred several at schools,
malls, and concerts, and the shots are getting worse and worse every time (Thompson, Amy, et
al. 250). The US government has put limits on what guns one can legally buy and modifications
individuals are not allowed to use. The government needs to look at a permanent solution that
will end the problem by increasing background checks and giving psychological treatment to
those who may have bipolar disorder that may lead to a potential threat regarding firearms. The
inspections will help stop the problem before it gets worse. Also, it should create a database that
tracks gun purchases and looks into potential threats before they happen. The paper argues that
guns do not kill people but people do kill people using gun. The argument has made the society
to split into two because there are people who think guns are the cause of the killing, while the
other half see it as the person behind the gun is the problem.
The view why people think that society is the issue has interpreted it in many different
ways as to who the shooter is, what their background looks like, and whether there is a registered
gun owner. In Chapter four of Culture and Technology, it states, the gun makes a particular type

of killing possible, and it is a lot easier to kill someone with a gun than with your bare hands.
This is an excellent point because thinking about the motive behind the killing, and it will change
the perspective on whether or not to blame the killers or the weapons. If someone set on killing
someone and had access to some other type of weapon besides a gun, then they would keep their
mind focused on what they ought to do and commit the crime that will take place. A weapon
only makes things more comfortable, but a crime can still happen with your bare hands or even a
glass shard. When you think about the person behind the crime, you must also consider that they
used some weapons to get there, but they are the ones who took control of the situation. As stated
in Chapter 5 of Culture and Technology, "Speaking metaphorically, when we feel in control, we
sometimes say that we are 'in the driver's seat,' and mean that the machine is under our control."
This goes to say that the person behind the gun is the responsible person behind the violence, but
they have control over it, so, therefore, the weapon is not the issue in this case.
In the United States, mass shooting incidents seem to get worse now and then. Edmond
(Post Office Massacre, par. 5), there was a mass shooting where fifteen people died and six
wounded in a post office in Oklahoma. However, in 2007 thirty-three victims were killed and
seventeen others injured in a mass shooting at Virginia Tech. Throughout these shootings, all the
US government has done is to put a band-aid on it by increasing gun control. But we have seen
no change in pattern. Most recently, the United States struck with this worst mass shooting in its
history. Fifty-eight victims died and more than five hundred and eighteen wounded in Las Vegas,
on 1 Oct. 2017. After all the government has put regulations on firearms, an attack with that
many wounded should not have happened, but still, the death is occurring day by day. According
to CNN, authorities had found forty-nine firearms all owned by Stephen Paddock, the shooter at
Las Vegas. Authorities indicated that Paddock raised no red flags to the police concerning them,
