CVA v. TIA
Give this one a try later!
Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA): sudden loss of neurologic fn d/t lack of
blood flow to brain
Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA): same as CVA but only lasting 5 minutes
Differentiation:
-Sx < 24 hrs (TIA) v. sx > 24 hrs (CVA)--always a MED EMERGENCY b/c
cannot differentiate during
Brain membranes: Superficial--> deep
Give this one a try later!
, 1. Skin
2. Periosteum
3. Bone
4. Dura mater
5. Arachnoid
--> SAH happens in b/w
6. Pia mater
--> ICH happens deep to
CVA/TIA etiology: 2
Give this one a try later!
1. Ischemic: block of blood flow to brain--> ischemia, infarction
2. Hemorrhagic: rupture of BV creating bleed into extravascular brain
space--> edema, ischemia, infarction
CVA/TIA: Non-modifiable RFs
Give this one a try later!
-Age
-Gender
-Race/ethnicity
-Previous TIA/stroke
-Family hx
-DMI
CVA/TIA: Modifiable RFs
