, Introduction
Technological changes, national and international politics and energy sector have a great impact on
future growth of business. According to O’Halloran (2013) the development of tool and technology
has resulted in a large shift of social structure and how individuals contribute to society in order to
make a living. Technology has brought a lot of changes into our socio-economic structure and the kind
of work people do. Technological advancement and digitisation has rapidly made it possible to
automate a great deal of work that natural persons can perform. The introduction of robotics and
internet of things through artificial intelligence has led to a broad concern about the destruction of
jobs. According to oxford study (2014) forty-seven percent of jobs in US could be replaced by
automated processes in the next two decades. Although technology has removed the need for certain
job types, it has in turn created a need for new opportunities. Technology in general term is a new set
of tools used in different ways to increase efficiency.
Our national and international politics, which is often time refered to as the rule of the game on the
requirement of how domestic and foreign firms should be treated in the domestic or foreign market;
have had great impact on international business operation. From an institutional perspective, national
and international politics dictates success and failure of business around the globe. Doing
international business is a great challenge to most businesses due to the difference in local context
network, regulation, languages, culture and norms.
Another important factor having toll effect on business is the energy sector. Energy serves as a driving
force behind industrial productivity and economic growth. This assignment yields to examine the
future impact of technology on globalization, the national and international political influence on
globalisation and the impact of energy on future growth of international business.
1. From a resources based perspective how technological changes is likely to influences future path
of globalization
Although globalisation is new phenomenon among us, its acceleration in the 19th century was as a
result of breakthrough in major technological innovation in manufacturing, communication and
transportation (Jones. 2005, Kenwood and Longhead. 1999 and Hummels 2007). Oxford dictionary
defines technology as the application of scientific knowledge for practical purpose (Kumar, Kumar &
Persaud.1999). The technological progress notably in shipping and navigations techniques has brought
about speed and scope of international trade through middle age into modern times. The acceleration
in industrial invention in steam engine, powered by new railway network and steam ship as well as
mechanical mass production has also sped-up the process of globalisation. The technological
advancement in communication, fast transport and invention of telegraphs in 1938 contributed
greatly to the process of globalisation.
It’s important to note that globalisation has contributed to how similar we are and has eliminated
national cultural differences and identities. A School of thought in marketing argued that the world is
on the path of convergence where consumers will become alike and companies will sell similar
products across the globe (Levitt, 1983 and Ohmae, 1989). The production of consumable electronic
products in Asia hold truth to this. Asia consumer electronic manufactures of computers and
smartphones have produced products that almost adapt to every local context. Technological changes
have really brought about rapid economic growth. Through technology the world economy has highly
