Religion
Catholic Church:
Catholicism was the main church of France, the denomination that was mostly pra
They highly valued the Pope, claiming that he had high authority
Owned about 6% of the Land across France
Permitted to collect the tithe (by the state/King)

CCoC:
-Stands for the Civil Constitution of the Clergy
Some effects of this are:
-abolishment of the tithe
-freedom of religion enshrined in Declaration of Rights of Man
-nationalised Church land
-dioceses replaced by the departments
-priests paid by the state
-Law of Residence (Bishops required to reside in diocese)
-election of priests and bishops
-they all had to swear an Oath to the clergy, many refused to do this however

Religious Toleration:
-1789, Protestants were allowed more freedom, they were allowed to carry out the
