Cross-Border Automotive Products and Service Delivery in the African Digital Economy
ASSESSMENT TITLE
Strategic Expansion of a South African Automotive SME into the Kenyan Market
1. INTRODUCTION
Masslif Africa (Pty) Ltd is a small business from South Africa that works in the
automotive and logistics industry. The company provides supply chain services and
delivers parts to car manufacturers on time. The company now wants to expand to
Kenya, a country it has not worked in before. This is because new US tariffs on South
African vehicle exports have reduced demand. So, Masslif Africa is looking for new
opportunities in Africa. My assignment looks at why Kenya was chosen, how the
company can get and use its resources, how it can deliver services across borders, and
how it can use digital business tools to grow and compete successfully.
2. CHOOSING THE AFRICAN HOST COUNTRY
Masslif Africa has selected Kenya as its host country for expansion. This decision was
driven by the recognition of specific opportunities, a careful assessment of logistical
infrastructure, and the cost of expansion, all framed within the context of the SME’s
strategic objectives for foreign direct investment (FDI).
