Due Date: 13 April 2026
TOPIC 1 (2 ESSAYS PROVIDED)

Writing Skills Improve Through Regular Practice

Writing is often seen as a natural ability, but it is in fact a skill that develops over time. I
strongly agree that writing improves only through regular practice. Like any other skill, writing
requires continuous effort, repetition, and reflection.

TOPIC 2 (2 ESSAY PROVIDED)

Self-discipline is more important than intellectual capacity for academic success

Academic success is often linked to intelligence, yet growing evidence shows that self
discipline plays a more critical role in determining student performance. Intellectual capacity
provides the ability to understand content, but self discipline determines whether that ability
is applied consistently. In many learning contexts, especially in distance education, students
who manage their time, regulate their behaviour and persist with tasks tend to perform better

TOPIC 1 (2 ESSAYS PROVIDED)

Writing Skills Improve Through Regular Practice

Writing is often seen as a natural ability, but it is in fact a skill that develops over
time. I strongly agree that writing improves only through regular practice. Like any
other skill, writing requires continuous effort, repetition, and reflection. Without
practice, even individuals with strong language knowledge struggle to express ideas
clearly. Regular writing builds confidence, strengthens structure, and improves the
ability to communicate meaning effectively.

Writing is not simply about knowing grammar rules or vocabulary. It involves
organising thoughts, developing arguments, and adjusting language to suit different
contexts. These abilities are strengthened through repeated use. The ENG1513
study guide highlights that writing is a process that includes planning, drafting,
revising, and editing (ENG1513 Study Guide, 2024). This process cannot be
mastered in one attempt. It improves when a person writes often and learns from
feedback. Each piece of writing gives the writer an opportunity to identify mistakes
and improve clarity.

Regular practice also helps writers develop fluency. When a person writes
frequently, they become more comfortable with expressing ideas. Sentence
construction becomes easier and more natural. Research shows that frequent writing
tasks improve both accuracy and coherence because learners become familiar with
language patterns (Graham and Perin, 2007). This means that practice allows
writers to move from basic sentence formation to more complex and meaningful
expression. Over time, writing becomes less stressful and more structured.

Another important benefit of practice is the improvement of critical thinking. Writing
requires a person to analyse information and present it logically. When students
write regularly, they learn how to organise arguments and support their viewpoints
with evidence. According to Hyland (2016), writing practice helps learners engage
more deeply with content and improves their ability to construct arguments. This is
important in academic contexts where students are expected to present clear and
